Why my marriage failed

Part 11

By Henry

It was on a chilly Wednesday, the month of August that we had decided to spend our August vacation at Chill Spot, a renowned hotel within Mfangano Island. We had carried our camping items and from the mainland we boarded a Water Bus to this beautiful place across the lake. The receptions from the locals to the hotel management was warm.

We had our camping tent, sleeping bags, camping pillow, headlamps, camp chairs, camp table, lantern and mantles and fuel. Our two beautiful two wheel monitors was with us always to monitor our physical exercise; mountain bikes. Mine was sky blue and she also loved the black and golden head tube Mountain Bike. We left our Chauffer Toyota Land Cruiser at the Police Station.

The hotel manager showed us a good place for camping and lake viewing from the hotel. That night we enjoyed the local Live Benga Music by Musa Juma Benga Group. The song Maselina and the slow-motion dancing style of two partners is a fresh memory.

For the first time I enjoyed fish. Fish that’s fresh from the lake. And I was informed it was from the fish cage. Lake View Fisheries is the leading in this business of fish cage within the Island. The taste and aroma make you feel that you should carry your village and paste it at Chill Spot to feel the Island lovely atmosphere.

Every morning, we used to record time lapse of the sunrise and do morning vlogging to update our online followers. Then in the evening before sunset, do some bike ride around the Island. That’s when I learnt that the Abasuba community is wide and that within Mfangano Island, there are other sub-Island; Takwiri, Yokia.

There is an Island that is known best for producing crops; mangoes, avocados, sugarcane and sweet potatoes. They are doing it for commercial purposes. So, it was not all about fishing only in the island. Also, within the Island, they have a power station, courtesy of the government thro Kenya Power And Lightening Company (KPLC).

Another thing, there is no criminal report of theft in the Island like cattle wrestling or stealing. You can’t run away since there is only one mode of transport; water bus. Security is of first class in this area.

Apart from this Island being occupied by the Suba Community, majority of the residents speak Luo. The cultures and other life styles adopted is from the Luo community. It’s only the elders and few elder brothers and sisters who understands the Suba customs and can speak the language fluently.

In this area, many residents do not work on Saturdays. They are the Sabbath keepers; Seventh Day Adventist followers.

We had only a week left to wind our vacation in this beautiful Island that we decided to tour Yokia Hills within the Island with our Mountain bikes. Previously we had gone as part of hiking and our normal time lapse record using our phones. I was leading and she was following me from behind.

‘Please, don’t speed, wait for me,’

She would say and I obey her command.

Climbing to the top was not an easy task. We had to move round following the paths like the locals do.

We saw the Sunset in a new way. Nice sun blazing’s of that late evening. The sun reflections to the lake made us feel like young kids in a new planet.

We had to leave our bikes and take some selfies, run, hide and even tickle each other. We smeared each other with the mountain sand, throw stones to check who will break the record like Julius Yego… it was fun I tell you.

‘Next time let’s visit this place with the fruits of your womb.’

I spoke.

She nodded her head and added,

‘I promise to give you twins,’

‘May the Lord grant our wishes,’

‘Amen’

We hugged each other. It was tight and for the first time, I felt loved more by her. We stayed there for few minutes looking at each other.

We took our both hands and hold each other arms firmly without saying anything. Just the smiles were speaking to each other silently and from a distance.

The mountain bikes were relaxing and the handlers looking at us. The look meant; we are your witness remember…

She took her bike and lead me as we decided to go back now to Chill Spot. I remember her telling me to be careful of the stones as we rode.

‘I’m always careful dear,’

‘Mmh’

After a short distance from Yokia Hills, I saw something like a snake ahead of me. I called her for help and I felt she was ignoring me…

Waking up, I found myself at Nairobi Adventist Hospital, physiotherapy and rehabilitation room. I was informed that I had Orthopedic surgery and they we trying there best in healing and caring for me.

I flown to this hospital 8 months ago and I was in a critical condition by well-wishers from Mfangano Island.

The stories they were giving me, it was were not making sense to me at all!

‘Me and Mfangano Island how now? Who took me there? How did I get to this bed and hospital?

I had many questions than answers ad I was told to relax and avoid straining my nerves with rhetoric questions and focus on my healing process.

I was disturbed with this breaking news about me being admitted. I was in a comma for that duration and they said that its true God heals.

I stayed there for two years and got my mind on how I got to this hospital. Throughout my healing journey process, the Chill Spot and the Beach Management Unit (BMU) of Mfangano Island has been taking care of me.

The hospital bills were catered for by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).

Where my lover of my life vanished to when I got the accident, no one knows and it remains a tale.

Today am narrating this story at Ngong Hills with my new blue mountain bike trying to kill the bad memories. God healed me.
